Inclusive processes on polarized deuterons and the short-range NN interaction

It is predicted that the cross sections for high-energy inclusive reactions on polarized deuterons, (e,e'), (e,e'N), and (h, N), depend strongly on the deuteron polarization in the kinematical region where scattering on a free nucleon is forbidden. It is shown that these processes can give information about the spin structure of the high-momentum component of the deuteron wave function. It is also shown that study of the reaction D+N..-->..p+X permits the complete solution of the problem of measuring the spin density matrix for a fast deuteron. A number of polarization effects in the inclusive production of leading hadrons in hadronic reactions which arise in perturbative QCD are pointed out.
