Configuration of electrodes for transversely excited gas lasers

Patent ·
OSTI ID:5014486
This patent describes a configuration of electrode means for use in a transversely excited gas laser which includes: a. an elongated cylindrical chamber of cross-sectional dimensions suitable for confining a laser gas discharger; b. a laser gas disposed in the chamber; c. first and second reflecting means for reflecting light energy from the laser gas discharge within the chamber so that the light energy travels longitudinally the length of the chamber; d. energy means for applying a voltage of alternating polarity between the electrode means at a frequency ranging from 10 Mhz to about 3 GHz to establish the laser gas discharge in the laser gas; and 3. coupling means for matching the steady state reactive impedance of the chamber to the impedance of the energy means and for coupling the energy means to the electrode means.
