This text is a presentation on heat conduction, with emphasis on physical concepts and problem solving. The book includes illustrations with solved examples. Attention is given to the derivation of basic heat conduction equations and their solutions. Basic concepts, fundamentals, and general forms of the heat conduction equation and solutions of steady-state heat conduction problems in one-dimensional bodies are treated. Orthogonal functions, Fourier expansions, integral transforms, and other mathematical techniques are also presented. Integral and Laplace transforms and methods of their solution are provided in addition to an introduction to finite-difference method. Other topics include coverage of formulation and solution topics such as the Duhamel method, the variational method, and an overview of phase-change problems.
