There are four sedimentary sequences that have been recognized in Cambrian strata, from the Lamotte Sandstone upwards to the Eminence Dolomite, in southern Missouri. Corresponding to the four sedimentary sequences, there are three major transgressions which can be correlated throughout the area. Sequence one is a series of red beds deposited in alluvial or fluvial environments of pre-latest middle Cambrian age. Sequence two is a set of drowned shelf or homoclinal ramp sediments aged from latest middle Cambrian( ) to late Dresbachian stage. Sequence three includes sediments of intrashelf basin and homoclinal ramp from latest Dresbachian stage through the Franconian stage. Sequence four, deposited after the third transgression, is dominated by carbonate peritidal cycles in the Trempealeauan stage. During the second transgression, the Lebanon Arch, Central, and Greenfield intrashelf basins formed. The regional pattern of depositional settings were largely controlled by block faulting, which in turn was controlled by the activity of the Reelfoot Rift. Transgression surfaces (isotime lines) divide the four sedimentary sequences. Other boundaries, like the top of the Lamotte sandstone, transgress time at the westernmost part of the study area. Both barite and lead-zinc MVT deposits in Southeast Missouri are related to peritidal dolomite. There are close relationships between original facies and later diagenetic processes. Using carbonate ramp sedimentological models, specific lithofacies can be found for both ore exploration and research purposes.
