Computations of complex turbulent flows and heat transfer using two-layer based wall functions
- Fluent Inc., Lebanon, NH (United States)
This paper is concerned with applying a simple near-wall treatment based on two-layer based wall functions, to computations of turbulent convective heat transfer in complex, wall-bounded turbulent flows. The wall functions used in the present study is an extension of Launder and Spalding`s original wall functions for {kappa}-{epsilon} turbulence models that incorporates a two-layer concept in the budget of the turbulent kinetic energy at wall-neighboring cells. The wall functions are applied to a number of complex flows involving separation, recirculation and reattachment. The role of the turbulence model adopted in the core flow is also addressed through the comparisons of the results obtained using two different {kappa}-{epsilon} models. The results show that the wall functions used in this study give substantial improvements over conventional wall functions.
