Drilling activity decreased in all 3 CSD Districts covered by this report. The total number of wells drilled in Arkansas decreased 17.8%, in N. Louisiana 17.4%, and in E. Texas 9.5%. Exploratory drilling resulted in a success ratio of 5.2% in Arkansas, 3.6% in N. Louisiana, and 10.0% in E. Texas. The most important exploratory and development activity in S. Arkansas was within the Smackover limestone trend. Mohawk field was discovered and development continued at Chalybeat Springs and Walker Creek fields. In N. Louisiana, the Hosston and Cotton Valley trends were revived and received new drilling activity. The Pettet and Travis Peak led in E. Texas with 3 discoveries from each formation. All indications are that the Cedar Springs discovery could result in a major gas field.
