With favorable oil saturation and permeability, fireflooding will work in a reservoir deeper than 3,000 ft. This conclusion comes from a study of the in situ combustion project in the Trix Liz Woodbine Sand Unit. After a 4-yr operation, the fireflood has recovered more than twice the amount of oil expected by conventional recovery methods. The production rates ranged as high as 3-1/2 times that before ignition. Solutions have been found for most production problems. Sand production has been troublesome but not serious enough to influence the overall project. Air injection is expected to continue for 10 to 11 yr, but at a higher rate due to recent installation of an additional 1,000 Mcfd of compressor capacity. The geologic description of the field, the reservoir characteristics, and the fireflooding plan are described in detail.
