This standard provides guidelines for testing the leakage of sealed, radioactive brachytherapy sources. Seal integrity of these sources shall be maintained to prevent loss of radioactive material and thus assure effective radiation output; prevent unnecessary radiation exposure and contamination of patients and medical personnel; and prevent local or widespread radioactive contamination and the resultant costly decontamination operations and liability damage.
