This apparatus utilizes the introduction into a natural reservoir containing hydrocarbon oil of gas selected from the inert chemically inactive group (helium, neon, argon, krypton, xenon, radon, and also nitrogen and carbon dioxide, an/or mixtures of 2 or more) and causing such gases to be excited and heated by electroenergy impacts in a manner to effect emission of radiation in the infrared sector of the electromagnetic spectrum. The apparatus consists of a source of suitable gas, preferably internal combustion engine exhaust gases, a suitable source of electric current, and transducer means composed of a tube for conducting the gas into the drilled well-bore for injecting electroenergy impacts into the gas or gases to excite the atoms.
