Bethe-Peierls approximation for Lagrangian and Hamiltonian lattice models

The Bethe-Peierls approximation is applied to the classical Ising model in D dimensions and in a variational treatment of the Hamiltonian Z(2) gauge model in 2+1 dimensions. These analytical and simple calculations are in good agreement with exact results.
