To cut the cost of offshore workover, Gulf Offshore Co. has customized its new workover rig as the best course to offshore workover economy. The rig was designed in cooperation with a major company and is tailored primarily to that company's offshore platforms. It is acknowledged that the rig is a specialized tool, primarily built to serve one customer's specified surface and subsurface needs. Basically, it is a National T-45 with a pair of BJ Pacemaker triplex pumps and a 23-1/2-in. Ideco rotary under a 100-ft, 340,000-lb Lee Engineering mast. The rig is designed to break down into 15,000-lb lifts, so that it can be mobilized with a cargo boat and the cranes which the customer maintains on its Gulf Coast platforms. Piping and manifolding permit normal circulation, sand consolidation, acidizing, cementing, and gravel packing. Detailed specifications of the rig are listed.
