This report describes the development of a dynamic model for simulating the behavior of a longwall coal production system. The performance of the longwall system is simulated for varying coalbed parameters and such equipment factors as pick and drum design, armored face conveyor capacities and roof support capability. The model calculates the size and density of support; the cutting force power requirements and haulage speed for the loader-shearer; the conveyor size, speed and power requirements; and delay generation at heat and tailgates and at the longwall face. Simulated results are compared with actual results from an operating mine.
