Ventura field high pressure waterflood injection system

Conference · · Prepr. APR Prod. Div. Pacific Coast Dist. Spring Mtg.; (United States)
OSTI ID:5000477
Flooding of the 12,000-ft deep low permeability 5/6th(N) T-410 pool at Ventura requires the daily injection of nearly 60,000 bbl of compatible, non-corrosive, nonscale forming, low solids content water at pressures up to 5,000 psi. The principal design features of the water treating, filtering, and pumping system are outlined and the system's performance to date is discussed. Automatic diatomaceous earth filters coupled with a comprehensive chemical-treating program and a completely plastic-lined distribution system are providing a low cost (2.0 cents/bbl) low solids content (0 to 0.25 ppm) injection water. Chronic positive-displacement injection pump liquid cylinder failures, however, could prove to be a costly problem, say up to 0.5 cents/bbl of water pumped.
