Synthesis of fault-tolerant beta-networks
A class of interconnection networks called beta-networks has been proposed as intercomputer communication networks for multicomputer systems. Analytical results are applied to the synthesis of fault-tolerant beta-networks. Two network parameters are considered in the synthesis process. The fault tolerance (ft) parameter is the maximum number of beta-element faults that can be tolerated by a beta-network. The communication delay (cd) parameter, representing the worst-case delay between any pair of computers, is used as a measure of the performance of a beta-network. Tight bounds for both the ft and cd parameters are derived. Two important specific classes of beta-networks are synthesized, namely, the DPR-networks and the MISE-networks. 13 references.
