The magnetic properties and the crystal structure of MgV{sub 2}O{sub 4} and Mg(V{sub 0.85}Al{sub 0.15}){sub 2}O{sub 4} have been studied. Both compounds are the normal cubic spinels with highly frustrated magnetic lattice. Around T{sub 2}=65 K, MgV{sub 2}O{sub 4} has magnetic orders accompanied with the cubic-tetragonal transition. Below T{sub 2}, the susceptibility shows complex behavior. In Mg(V{sub 0.85}Al{sub 0.15}){sub 2}O{sub 4}, the spin-glasslike state appears. The {sup 51}V-Knight shift of MgV{sub 2}O{sub 4} has an anomalous temperature dependence, which is not simply related by that of the susceptibility. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
