Plastic deformation plays an important role in enhancing the texture and magnetic anisotropies of Nd{endash}Fe{endash}B magnets made from melt-spun ribbons. The effects of hot deformation on texture in Nd{endash}Fe{endash}B magnets was examined using inverse pole figures and pole figures for magnets with different {percent} die-upsets. It is shown that W{sub 50}, the average of widths of the 50{percent} intensity contour in pole figure, can be used as a good quantitative index of texture. With increase in {percent} die-upset from 50{percent} to 70{percent}, W{sub 50} systematically decreases from 32.3{degree} to 18.4{degree}. The energy product, (BH){sub max}, increased from 17 MGOe for a 0{percent} die-upset magnet to 46 MGOe for a 70{percent} die-upset magnet. {copyright} {ital 1997 American Institute of Physics.}
