Purpose was to investigate the alkali corrosion of SiAlON (SiN-Al{sub 2}O{sub 3}) glasses and ceramics under combustion conditions in presence of SO{sub 2} and chlorine. The first step was to determine the gas composition in combustion and/or gasification environments. The FACT code was used to calculate the alkali phases in vapor over an ash and pure components.
