EMAP-Estuaries has collected four years (1991--94) of comprehensive environmental data from the Louisianian Province (coastal Gulf of Mexico): This large-scale monitoring represents one component of a program designed to evaluate the environmental conditions of the Nation`s estuarine resources on a regional basis. A rigorous, integrated QA program was developed for the Province to define and control the data quality for the broad assemblage of field and laboratory activities related to the EMAP monitoring. An assessment of the data quality for each of the major indicators of resource status and condition (e.g., water-quality parameters, benthic composition, chemical contaminants in sediment and fish tissue samples, and sediment toxicity) will be presented based on quantitative comparisons to the GA/QC criteria established in the EMAP-E Louisianian Province Quality Assurance Project Plan. Also, the Province QA program`s overall effectiveness to provide adequate assurances that resultant data meet the stated goals of EMAP will be critiqued.
