This paper describes Sandia National Laboratories research on metering techniques for use in the diagnosis and characterization of lost circulation encountered during the drilling of geothermal wells. These techniques feature the use of the Sandia-designed rolling float meter and commercial Doppler flow meters to monitor inflow and outflow rates while drilling.
