Superconducting helix section for the acceleration of protons (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4939701
Thesis. Submitted to Technische Hochschule, Karlsruhe (West Germany). A 60-MeV superconducting proton linear accelerator is under construction. Superconducting helically loaded resonators are chosen for the energy range of 0.75 MeV up to 15 MeV. A specific propenty of the helix structure is its low mechanical stiffness. The electromagnetic fields cause deformations of the helix windings, resulting in a considerable change of eigenfrequency of the resonator. The influence of this effect ( radiation pressure'') on the distribution of the accelerating field of the helix accelerator was investigated in an experiment on the first section of the superconducting helix accelerator and the results are discussed.
