Disposal of radioactive wastes into the underground in the Federal Republic of Germany: a survey on practical experience and R + D work

From meeting of the disposal in the subsoil of industrial effluents; Rome, Italy (12 Apr 1973). In the Federal Republic of Germany solid and solidified radioactive wastes are disposed of in the Asse salt mine. A short review is given of the extensive R and D programs already executed and still under way; practicnl experience gained during routine disposal operations is described. A survey is given of the program on deep-well injection of tritium- containing effluents into isolated depleted oil horizons of the deep underground that is being studied at Karlsruhe as an approach to tritium disposal which does not lead to the contamination of the biosphere.
