Possible resonance anomalies in the $sup 16$O + $sup 12$C reaction

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4938591
A strong correlation was observed between the 0 deg and 180 deg excitation functions for the /sup 12/C (/sup 16/O, alpha )/sup 24/Mg reaction leading to the 13.2 MeV 8/sup +/ level. The possibility that this is due to exciting intermediate, structure peaks at E/sub cm/ = 13.7, 14.7, 16.0, and 18.0 MeV, or preferential excitation of even or odd angular momenta in the entrance channel, is discussed. (2 figures, 1 table) (auth) 255O6 In the energy range of 1.98 to 4.2 MeV the differential cross sections of the /sup 15/N(/sup 3/He, alpha )/sup 14/N reactions for the alpha /sub o/ a/sub 1/ alpha /sub 2/ groups at 45, 90 and 135 deg and for the alpha /sub 3/ alpha /sub 4/ groups at the angles of 90 and 135 deg were measured. The angular distributions of this reaction are measured for the alpha /sub o/ alpha /sub 1/ groups. A possibility is considered to describe the obtained results using the distortedwave Born approximation taking into account the compound nucleus mechanism by the Hauser- Feshbach method. (auth)
