Some aspects of Italian legislation concerning radiation protection and safety of nuclear plants are discussed. Some of the most relevant problems are reviewed and solutions adopted are discussed with particular refurence to the choice of sites for nuclear plants, the evaluation of nuclear accidents, and radiation monitoring of the environment and personnel.
