Direct measurement of body dose in personnel dosimetry (in German)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4935735

According to the concept of personnel dosimetry applicable to this date the measurement of a surface absorbed dose at the front of the body at the place of the dosimeter is required. At present, the body dose is evaluated from the value measured by the dosimeter, taking into account additional information abcut the radiation field (energy, direction). Based on a phantom calibration and following the concept of a body dose measurement, the absorbed dose appearing in any depth of the tissue or in the interesting critical organs is directly indicated on the surface of the body by means of a personnel dosimeter. The relevant requirements of phantom calibration will be discussed. With the help of equipment factors determined experimentally and given dose conversion factors the reading of a persornel dosimeter can be directly related to the absorbed dose prevailing at any interesting point in the body or to any defined dose equivalent function. The dosimeter properties of both measuring methods are discussed with particular view to the energy and direction dependence of a body dose estimate. (auth)
