Decontamination of the Douglas Point Generating Station by cycling techniques
Technical Report

OSTI ID:4934943
Radiation fields were reduced by 85 percent around the Monel boilers at Douglas Point Generating Station by a series of cycling decontaminations in the period October 1971 to April 1972. Decontamination of carbon and stainless steels was less successful. The radiation fields from carbon steel were reduced by 10 to 30 percent. 500 to 800 Curies of /sup 60/Co were removed from the heattransport equipment by the decontaminations. This was removed by establishment of oxidizing conditions in the coolant prior to shutdown, then after shutdown application of temperature and hydraulic cycles and a change back to reducing condition in conjunction with operation of a high-capacity purification system. Corrosion measurements indicate that an insignificant amount of corrosion occurred during the decontamination period. 8 references. ( auth)
