Wave-plasma interaction near the lower hybrid frequency (in French)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4934894
A theoretical and experimental study of wave -plasma interaction near the lower hybrid frequency is presented. The propagation properties of the resonant electromagnetic mode, the waves in an inhomogeneous cold plasma column, the wave coupling near the lower hybrid resonance, the damping of plasma waves, the efficiency of the lower hybrid heating, and the coupling with an external hf source were investigated. The lower hybrid resonance phenomenon was demonstrated in the Chimere experiment. The results obtained indicate that the lower hybrid plasma heating is a fast and efficient process. Its application in a plasma close to thermonuclear conditions seems very interesting. (FR)
