From meeting on the development of industrial applications of radiation chemistry; Paris, France (13 Mar 1973). Different structured membranes were obtained. Gamma radiation is used to implant the packets of polyelectrolytes in the texture of a crystalline polyester film or in the bulk of a porous silicone elastomer. Heavy ionizing particles are used to obtain a porous material with cylindrical shaped pores having diameters determined by the chemical development conditions. In this last case, the utilization of the species created by the passage of the particles to fix the polyelectrolyte results in its distribution in the walls of the pores after it has produced the porosity. The first ion exchange membranes exhibited interesting properties for small thicknesses. The second ion exchange membranes, which are porous particularly when the pores are coated with a polyelectrolyte, suggest applications in separation using fine filtration or ultrafiltration. (FR)
