OSTI ID:4933505
The mass and charge distributions of the fission products resulting from the fission of heavy nuclei produced by the reactions /sup 181/Ta + /sup 84/Kr, / sup 181/Ta + /sup 136/Xe, /sup 238/U + /sup 136/Xe an d /sup 238/U + /sup 129/Xe were studied. On the basis of the data obtained, the mechanism of the formation of fission fragments and the possibilities of using the fission reaction induced by ions with mass A > 100 to synthesize new neutron-rich heavy nuclei, particularly in the predicted region of stability of superheavy nuclei, are discussed.
