Ratio of two random variables and the simulation of this quantity using a Monte Carlo method (in French)

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4933147
Various different measurements concern the ratio between two quantities. In the case of measurements requiring the accumulation of data over a comparatively long period (pulse counting), it is impossible to exceed a certain measurement time due to spurious effects. As a result, short measurement time intervals are used in which the two quantities are established alternately, consecutive ratios of the two quantities being determined from the measurements. It is shown that the probability density of the ratio between the two distributions corresponds to the Cauchy distrib tion. A Monte Carlo simulation is used to verify this behavior in the general case. (FR)
