Mixer--settlers of two capacities 100 ml/min and 10 ml/min were developed, using air pulsing as mixing device and air lift for interstage fluid transfer. The units were made of glass and battery assembled with PVC tubings. The studles were carried out using uranium--TBP system in two stage battery. The influence of type of pulsing probe used, and amplitude and frequency of the pulsing used were studied. Influence of type of dispersion on efflciency and entrainment was also studied. The residence time in mixer was fixed by batch mixing experiments. (auth)
