The structural chemistry of the type II Bi{sub 2-x}Nb{sub x}O{sub 3+x} solid solution has been studied via computer simulation of the electron diffraction patterns. The Nb cations were found to exist in some Nb{sub 7}O{sub 30} and Nb{sub 18}O{sub 72} clusters which were in partially ordered arrangements in the {delta}-Bi{sub 2}O{sub 3} matrix, forming some incommensurate superstructures. Commensurage 11 x 11 x 11 superstructures in Bi{sub 17}Nb{sub 3}O{sub 33}, Bi{sup 9}NbO{sub 16}, and an 8 x 8 x 8 superstructure in Bi{sub 4}NbO{sub 8.5} derived from the {delta}-Bi{sub 2}O{sub 3} subcell have been proposed in order to approach the real structures.
