The topic of this research is the evaporation of liquid spray in fast fluidized beds. The phenomena involve three-phase co-current flow of solid particles and liquid drops in a high velocity gas medium. When the gas and solid particles are at temperatures greater than the saturation temperature of the liquid, the liquid drops evaporate at a rate governed by interfacial heat and mass transfer. This paper describes an experimental method to determine the rate of liquid evaporation in such three-phase systems. Experiments were carried out with liquid nitrogen evaporating in superheated beds of sand particles and air.
