AN APPROXIMATE SOLUTION OF FICK'S DIFFUSION EQUATION

An approximate method of solving Fick's diffusion equa tion (or the heat conduction equation) with variable diffusion coefficients is discussed. Simple solutions may be obtained. In one example, the result appears to be in good agreement with the more elaborate numerical calculations by Crank. (auth)
