IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO THE PRODUCTION OF PETROLEUM COKE

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4843513
A process is outlined for producing petroleum coke for conversion into reactor grade graphite. The process comprises treating a petroleum distillate with a O/sub 2/-containing gas at 175 to 400 deg C, distilling the resulting material, and subjecting the distillate to a thermal cracking treatment. The resulting petroleum coke may be graphitized using the distillation residue with a softening point (Ring and Ball method) of at least 80 deg C as a binder and densifier. (D.L.C.)
