CAESIUM 137 IN AIR, PRECIPITATION, DRINKING WATER, MILK AND BEEF IN NORWAY DURING 1959 AND 1960

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4843140
Cs/sup 137/ in air, precipitation, drinking water, milk, and beef was measured at Bergen, Roros and Lillestrom, Norway. The Bergen district is a mountainous coastal area, Roros is a mountainous inland area, and Lillestrom is a lowland, inland area. The Cs/sup 137/ concentration in air and precipitation was at nearly the same level at all sites and variations occurred simultaneously. The amount of precipitation varied from site to site. Therefore the fall-out at Bergen was about 5 times higher than at Roros and about twice as high as at Lillestrom. The average concentration in drinking water was only a few percent of the average concentration in precipitation. The concentration of Cs/sup 137/ in milk at Bergen was about twice as high as at Roros and 7 times higher than at Lillestrom. The variations in beef from district to district appeared to follow nearly the same pattern as for milk. (M.C.G.)
