The 6.48-day Cs/sup 132/ has been made by the neutronirradiation of natural Ba and chemical separation of Cs from Ba, and by 90 Mev proton bombardment of Cs. The following gamma -rays were observed in a scintillation spectrometer: 670 kev (100), (1040 plus or minus 20) kev (0.25 plus or minus 0.03), (1140 plus or minus 20) kev (0.55 plus or minus 0.06), (1320 plus or minus 20) kev (0.75 plus or minus 0.08), 0.02 plus or minus 0.005) and (1980 plus or minus 30) kev (0.04 plus or minus 0.01). By conventional coincidence and summing technique studies, the feeding of the following levels in Xe/sup 132/ is inferred: 670 kev (93%), 1320 kev (1%), 1450 kev (0 1%), 1700 kev (0.6%), 1800 kev (1.2%), and 1980 kev (0.6%). These levels have perhaps the spin and parity 2/ sup +/, 2/sup +/, 4/sup +/, 2, 2, and 2, respectively. The positron branching to the 670 kev state is about 1.2%. The beta /sup -/decay to the 470 kev state of Ba/sup 132/ is less than 3%. The decay energy of Cs/sup 132/ is inferred to be about 2100 kev. A decay scheme is suggested. (auth)
