HALF-LIFE OF Cs$sup 13$$sup 7$ (in Russian)

Journal Article · · Atomnaya Energ.
OSTI ID:4841405
The half-life of Cs/sup 137/ was determined by measuring the change in count rate of a known amount of cesium. The count rate was taken on a 4 pi gas- flow counter, and the amount of cesium was measured on a MC-4 mass spectrometer by the method of isotopic dilution. The Cs/sup 137/ was isolated from a mixture of fission products, and was 99.99% radiochemically pure. The average isotopic composition of the fission product cesium was found to be 49.36% Cs/sup 133/, 0.07% Cs/sup 134/, 14.01% Cs/sup 135/ and 36.56% Cs/sup 137/. It was assumed that 11.4% correction had to be made for the conversion electrons from Ba/sup 137/ /sup m/. The relative content of Cs/sup 134/ and Cs/sup 137/ was also determined radiometrically. The half-life of Cs/sup 137/ was found to be 29 plus or minus 1 years. (TTT)
