RELATIVISTIC EFFECTS AND MUON CAPTURE IN HEAVY NUCLEI

Inclusion of relativistic effects in the description of nuclear forces results in a specific expression for the nucleon energy in heavy nuclei. The validity is checked using the muon capture process as a nuclear probe. Neutron emission following muon capture in Pb and Ag is calculated using the relativistic model and compared with recent experimental measurements. No positive evidence is found for the checked relativistic effects. (auth)
