A method for irradiating Te to form I/sup 131/ is outlined which is rapid and does not require chemical separation of I/sup 131/. In this method, a Te compound, particularly telluric acid, is irradiated with neutrons and then dissolved in acid solution, and I/sup 131/ is separated by distillation or extraction. (D.L.C.)
