INVESTIGATIONS OF BINARY ZIRCONIUM ALLOYS

The effects of alloy additions on the mechanical properties and corrosion resistance of crystal bar zirconium were studied. Both electroric contribution and lattice strains associated with alloy additions affected the corrosion rate of zirconium. Solid-solution strengthening was possible in zirconium but the most strengthening was obtained in twophase alloys. The two- phase alloys generally exhibited poor corrosion resistance in 680 deg F water and 750 deg F steam. (auth)
