Photopion Production and (γ, 3π) Interaction

The photoproduction reaction gamma + p yields p + pi /sup 0/ is investigated, in order to obtain information on the pi + gamma yields pi + pi ( gamma ,3 pi ) interaction. A photoproduction amplitude is obtained in terms of the nucleon isovector form factors and the ( gamma , 3 pi ) coupling constant. The ( gamma ,3 pi ) interaction is found to have a fairly large effect on the angular distribution of the pi /sup 0/ production, especially on the coefficient of cos theta . Comparisons with experiments impose a crude limitation on the magnitude of the coupling constant. (auth)
