>The incidence of lung cancer was investigated among patients-treated for atomic bomb sequelae in Hiroshima from 1957 to 1960. A total of 1875 persons was treated, 32.8% men and 67.2% women. Lung cancer was detected in 1.7% of the entire group, or in 2.3% of the men and 1.4% of the women. All of the men with lung cancer were over 50 yr of age, whcreas only 78% of the women were over 50. It was estimated that the older cancer patients were on the average more than 2.1 km from the hypocenter at the time of the explosion, but those who were indoors at the time were in most cases within 2.0 km of the hypocenter (most of those outdoors and within 2 km were killed). Survivors experiencing epilation were usually within 1.6 km and those with bleeding were within 2.0 km and were outdoors. Lung cancer in this group could not be attributed to smoking or to various occupational or environmental factors. (H.H.D.)
