ELECTRO-CHEMICAL BEHAVIOR OF ZINC-ZIRCONIUM ALLOYS IN THE PRESENCE OF FUSED CHLORIDES (in French)

The electrochemical behavior of zinc-zirconium alloys was studied by determinating the electromotive force of galvanic cells which comprise an alloy electrode, a pure metal electrode (zinc or zirconium), and an electrolyte made up of a eutectic mixture of potassium chloride and lithium chloride. When the galvanic chain comprises an alloy electrode and a pure zinc electrcde, stationary electromotive forces can be obtained. These forces correspond to the different phases which can be found in the alloy and they confirm the presence of the series of zinc-zirconium combinations proposed by Kilp. The free enthalpies calcu lated on the basis of the electromotive force values measured are in good agreement with those which can be established on the basis of vapor pressure determination. (auth)
