WELDING IN NUCLEAR POWER STATIONS

Journal Article · · Nuclear Power
OSTI ID:4836654
Welding processes are discussed which produce high quality seams needed for reactor pressure vessels and heat exchangers. The processes discussed are: manual metal-arc, in all positions; submerged arc, downhand position and 3 o'clock position; and electroslag, vertical position. Also of interest is the CO/ sub 2/ shielded metal-arc, a method in which there is virtually no slag inclusions. Automatic or semi-automatic methods are also discussed in terms of their use for pressure vessel seams. The properties of the processes and future applications of the methods are discussed. (N.W.R.)
