The physical limitations of the magnet of a high intensity, fixed-field, alternating-gradient accelerator are examined. Then the operational conditions of this system, which are determined by the gross charge due to the high intensity beant, are defined. The optimum repetition cycle is examined from the viewpoint of the yield and the band length. The magnet parameters are then reexamined. (J.S.R.)
