THE PREPARATION OF CARBON SUBOXIDE

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:4834578
Two methods for the preparation and isolation of pure carbon suboxide were examined: the pyrolysis of diacetyl tartaric anhydride and the dehydration of malonic acid. Final yields of the product were approximately 30% and l2 to 15%, respectively, and a high degree of purity was confirmed by mass spectrometric and chromstographic examinations. General observations on the handling, storage, and physical nature of the compound are made. (auth)
