The PRE program calculates the transient performance of pressurized water nuclear power plant pressurizers. The laws of conservation of energy and mass are applied to predict the pressure, masses, volumes, and energies within toe system. The pressurizer model used consists of four distinct fluid regions: steam; spray and condensate; active or main water; and the subcooled lower insurge water. In addition the transient heat conduction in the pressurizer wall caused by condensation of steam on its surface is calculated using a two-node, lumpsd parameter model. The performance of the pressurizer is a function of the initial conditions in the pressurizer, surge rates, surge enthalpies, spray fraction, spray efficiency, condensation of steam on the pressurizer wall, mixing of insurge water, heat transfer from the steam (isentropic, polyatropic or saturation compression process), heater input to the water and spray valve, and relief valve control. These are all items of input to the program. The surge and spray rates and enthalpies are entered in tabular form as functions of time. One of the input options utllizes temperatures as input rather than surges and enthalpies. (auth)
