IMPROVEMENTS IN OR RELATING TO CORROSION INHIBITION OF FERROUS METAL

Patent ·
OSTI ID:4833653

A method is described for inhibiting corrosion of the surface of a ferrous metal plate having a first surface in contact with a molten metal, such as bismuth. The method consists of adding a nitride former (zirconium or titanium to the molten metal to form a nitride layer on the first surface and continuously forming a nitride layer on the second surface of the plate. The metal plate is maintained at 500 to 600 deg C and ammonia is continuously fed to the second surface. (N.W.R.)
