A method is given for depositing a uniform, adherent, corrosion- resistant boride coating on a metal. The method comprises immersing the metal and B in a fused bath of an alkali metal fluoride and 0.5 to 50 mole% of an alkali metal fluoroborate and making electrical connection between the metal and B outside the bath to deposit B on the metal. The metals which may be borided in this way are those having atomic numbers 23-29, 4l-47, and 73-79, and alloys containing these metals as major constituents.
