The calculation of shielding for reactor channels is systematized by using the method of the attenuation section. A general attenuation formula for neutrons and primary gamma radiation is used and a general formula for the attenuation of secondary gamma radiation resulting from (n, gamma ) processes in radiative capture is established. A methodical analysis is then made of thc attenuation of the emerging radiation, of the back-scattered radiation, and of the flux resulting from channel collimation. A general solution for the attenuation of radiation having any energy spectrum and a simplified solution for the attenuation of fission spectrum radiation are given. The variation of the attenuation cross section of graphite as a function of neutron energy was calculated. (tr-auth)
